Happy New Year to all the readers of the In Touch magazine as well as all stakeholders of Claydon High School. We have had a bit of a change here at Claydon recently, Ms Taylor has headed over to Thurston Community College for a few months which means that I have stepped up as Headteacher in the interim; I am incredibly proud to lead such a brilliant school.

Before the festive period, we held our Christmas Tea Party for the community which was attended by over 60 members of the public. Our Hospitality and Catering students, led by Ms Wilson and Miss Finch, organised and catered the entire event; it was a wonderful occasion and very much enjoyed by all. We are now planning an Easter Tea Party, so please look out for the invite as tickets will sell out quickly!

Looking forward, I started our staff PD Day and student assemblies by talking about ‘the power of stories’ and in particular discussing a book called ‘Legacy’ by James Kerr. This book is based on the New Zealand rugby union team and how their culture enables them to be so successful. We are using some of these key elements to continue to grow as a school.

If anyone would like to discuss the book mentioned, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you would like to find out more about the school or to arrange a tour, please visit our website for more information.

We wish all the local community a very happy and healthy 2024.

Mark Ismay – Headteacher
